Skiing/Snowboarding: Snowshoe is home to the southeast’s best skiing and snowboarding terrain and is typically open for winter sports from late November through March. Mother Nature (location, elevation and weather patterns) provides the best natural snow in the region… plus Alterra has recently invested a ton of cash in additional snowmaking technology. In Snowshoe you will find three separate ski/board areas (Snowshoe Basin, Western Territory, Silver Creek), multiple terrain parks, and typically the most open slopes/acreage in the region. On the map to the right you can see a road which crosses the Western Territory several hundred feet down from the top of the mountain… that’s West Ridge Road.
Mountain biking: Snowshoe features one of the largest trail systems in the East plus a certified IMBA Ride Center. Snowshoe Bike Park is recognized as one of the best in the U.S. With legendary berms, jumps drops and flow for every appetite. With nearly 40 trails and 1,500 of vertical feet of descent, the mountain provides thrills for the first time rider, pro downhillers, cross country lovers and everyone in between.
Golf: The Raven Golf Course is found at the base of Cheat Mountain, approximately 10 minutes down. This Gary Player design is the #4 ranked public course in West Virginia, according to Golf Week. The Raven is a challenging course carved out of the forest on the side of the mountain. It features dramatic elevation changes and rugged rock faces. From the tips it is 7,045 yards — if you’re so brave. From back there the course rating is 75.5 with a slope of 142. Bring extra balls! The clubhouse has a pro shop plus bar and grill, and there is on-course beverage service. The Raven is typically open from late-April through Mid-October, depending on the weather.
Motorcycling: Start your day in the middle of great motorcycling roads, not riding several hours just to get to them! Snowshoe makes an amazing home base for a motorcycle trip. Whether you enjoy exploring, cruising or carving mountain twisties, this area of WV could become your new go-to for motorcycle trips… it has it all! Plan your loops in advance or wait until you get here. The options are endless!
Mountain Events: Just to name a few… Taste of the Mountain; Ruff Race; Downhill Southeast Race; Grand National Cross Country Series; 4848 Festival; Brews & Blues Festival; Treasure on the Mountain; Pickin’ and Pedalin’; UCI Mountain Bike World Series; WV Enduro Serices; more.
Fishing: Famous for fly-fishing, the Elk River is nearby… so is the Greenbriar River.
Hiking: Opportunities abound. You can also find the Greenbriar River Trail in Cass.
Food and Drink: Is there anything better after a long day on the slopes, trails or roads than a great meal and cocktails? The Village has plenty to offer. There is even a new liquor store in town.
